Exercise C 1
september 19, 2011
I prefer study at home because It is more quiet and I can concentrate in what I am doing, without any interruption or distraction. I like to revise my notes, and make a list of what I need to learn, and them, I try to memorize by writing the samething many times.

Chinese and English
My native language is Mandarin Chinese. I think I am a pretty good Chinese reader. However, my English reading skill is terrible. I love reading! I used to read a lot when I was in Taiwan. I read everyday and I went to book store every weekend. Try to ready everyday can develop good reading habits. Reading in English is difficult for me because the vocabulary that I know is limited. But I know if I have good reading habits would help me build up my vocabulary. I think vocabulary is the most basic skill we need to improve because we can understand it when people talk or we can express ourselves well if we have enough vocabulary. So Yes! I am learning. I am learning English. I am learning how to develop good reading habits!!!

My native language and learning English
I was thinking about the question for this week. If I could compare my skills in my native language, I think my best skill is to be a good listener. It help me a lot because in English there is more sounds than it Spanish. During my first semester I was thinking that I will never understand English because for my opinion the people spoke very fast, but I tried to watch movies every day and I learned to distinguish the words and the sounds. sometimes when I´m listening I feel confused because I do not understand the meaning of the words this is why In my opinion for became a good listener we need to have more vocabulary in our mind. Today this is my new goal.
DEAR FRIENDS

Language Learning Skills
I'm a pretty good reader in my own language, which is Japanese. Yes, I am pretty sure that I'm good at reading because I got always great scores for my reading class when I was a student. Because I can read and understand well, I can write well, too! Sorry for being too much confident...but it's only for in Japanese. Because English and Japanese have very different styles of writing, writing and reading in English are not as easy as in Japanese. If I wrote in English like I do in Japanese, it would be a little weird; actually many tutors asked me what I was trying to say in my essay many times last semester, so my skills in my native language weren't really helpful. However, since I am getting used to English writing structures gradually, I'm a little bit comfortable with writing in English now. So if I had to write an essay in Japanese, I would use the same strategies, like how to organize my essays. For me, English writing is clearer and easier to understand than Japanese writing, so I won't use my Japanese writing strategies in 5 -paragraph-essays, but the strategies I've learned since I came here.
Oh, I almost forgot, but for reading, I sometimes use the same strategies as in Japanese when I read in English and answer questions. I skim the passage first, then I start to answer the questions. I don't read the whole passage deliberately, but only the important information to answer the questions. As I use this strategy, sometimes I make mistakes, but mostly I get correct answers. I think it is a good skill for reading.

how I can apply my native language in English language learning.
how I can apply my native language in English language learning?
I used to write a dairy in Korean before I came to U. S.A. This made my daily problems solve well and calmed myself. As a result , In this process, I used a lot of various words to express my thinking and feeling. So I think that writing a diary is a good way to be applied to improve English language because it needs to think and express in English. First, looking back a day through, I think about events and feelings. Second, the process of writing, I have to check words and sentences to express my thinking and feeling exactly as much as I can. In conclusion, writing a daily in English is one of the best ways to develop my English.

Metacognitive Blog Post 6
Dear Students,
It time to think about thinking again. This blog post assignment I want you to write about what skills you already possess in your native language and how you have used, or how you want to use them better in English. For example, you might be an excellent reader in your native language because you read a lot, or you might an excellent listener because you take notes. So you need to think about something you do well in your native language and then discuss how you have applied or how you can apply it in your English language learning.
Have a great weekend!
Miss Clark
